Early Learning Program

Winans's Early Learning Program (ELP) engages 4-year-old students in learning activities, capturing their young minds. Offered as either half-day or full-day classes, ELP focuses on building foundational skills in early literacy and numeracy through engaging, age-appropriate instruction and experiences. Teachers monitor student progress and adjust instruction to support each child’s learning and help prepare them for success in kindergarten and the early elementary grades. Start your Early Learning adventure at Winans where our Little Rangers thrive!

Early Learning Program Entry:
Students must turn 4 years of age by September 10th to be considered for entry into the Early Learning Program.  Any parents choosing to opt into ELP sign up students for developmentally appropriate screening where it is determined if the student may benefit from extra support in early reading or math skills. If a child is identified as needing additional support, they may be eligible to enroll in the classroom-based early learning program offered by the school district.

Screening Process:
1. Students must be registered for Livingston Public Schools before attending the screening session. Details regarding how to enroll your student in Livingston Public Schools can be found below by clicking on our Enrollment Button.

2. During screening, trained staff administer several short, research-based assessments to understand a child’s early literacy and numeracy development. The results help determine whether a child is eligible for entry into the Early Learning Program.

3. The screening assesses:
  • oral language skills
  • alphabet knowledge
  • phonological awareness
  • early math skills: counting, number naming, one-to-one correspondence, and comparing quantities
